About The Regatta

How long has the Hampton Cup Regatta been in existence, and is it the oldest race of it's type in North America?

The Hampton Cup Regatta has been run since 1926. There were races before Hampton, however, none have run for as many consecutive years.

How are the races sanctioned?

The American Powerboat Association. We are a part of Region 4 of the APBA and our home host club is the Hampton Cup Racing Club.

Where was it first run?

The Hampton Cup Regatta began running in the Hampton River between the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel and the mouth of the river.

What boats will you run this year?

Check out the classes page for information about each of the classes.

What speeds will they run?

Top speeds for the classes range from 80 to 170 mph.

Tell me about the Hampton Cup Regatta organization itself?

The Hampton Cup Regatta is put together by an all volunteer organization. There are about 45 dedicated volunteers who meet year round to put on the event, as well as a huge number of race weekend volunteers, security personnel and others that support the event. We also receive a tremendous amount of support from Fort Monroe, the City of Hampton, the Hampton Department of Fire & Rescue, the Hampton Police, LAFB and the Nightingale helicopter.

What else is there to do besides watching racing?

You can come visit the children’s area or one of the many food vendors. In addition, you can meet the drivers and pit crews, look at the boats up close and really get a feel for what goes into keeping these boats running.

Are there sponsorship opportunities available?

We appreciate our longtime sponsors! We have many additional sponsorship opportunities! If you are interested in a sponsorship opportunity, please contact Hampton Cup Regatta

Where is the best place to watch the race?

The Mercury Boulevard bridge is the best place to see the huge rooster tails up close.
